“Mind itself has always been without substance.
It is not seen by looking, but is emptiness.
It is not a void, but is cognizant and clear.”
— Patrul Rinpoche
To truly be Aware one must employ all Senses.
These Senses are Touch, Life, Self-Movement, Balance, Smell, Taste, Sight, Temperature/Warmth, Hearing, Language, Concept and Ego.
How we perceive these Senses forms the Person that we are.
Acute observation is required for Perception.
Understanding (the Grasp of what we Perceive) is acquired through Experience.
Recognition of Patterns, Persons, Thoughts and Actions channels our Senses into categories of Thought.
Thought is parsed with Critical Thinking.
An Appreciation of what we Understand comes from an Openness to all things.
Realizations and Insights are born of Inclusion.
Cognizance is the Knowledge and Sensitivity of/to all Moralities.
The glue of Morality is Acknowledgment.
The Embracement of Morality is Flexibility.
Without the Embracement of Morality one might fall into the Sorrows of Exclusion, Apprehension, Anxiety and Fear.
These are states of Ignorance, Neglect, Misunderstanding, Insensitivity, Close Mindedness and Guilt.
When asked how he was today, my dear friend would say:
“Conscious and Coherent.”
It was all he ever hoped for and it was all he ever needed.
It made him Competent.
It was a measure of his Awareness.
Competence was well expressed by a novel character named Lazarus Long:
“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”
— Robert Heinlein, Time Enough for Love
