Time Machine Flaw

Episode 549 August 10, 2019 This week's music: [embedyt] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwMozVGKcAI[/embedyt] Because of a flaw in the way that Time Machine restores Mail data, Macintosh Mail.app can fail to run. Time Machine is the backup application built into macOS. It comes with the operating system and is a must use feature for every Macintosh user. Time Machine copies the entire boot drive onto an external volume (like a hard drive, flash drive or network share). Initially, Time Machine copies everything from the boot drive to the backup drive. After that, Time Machine does an incremental backup adding new and changed files...

Welcome to my New bLog

Episode 548 August 3, 2019 Evolution in computing is the one certainty. i have used the same web authoring software for more than 10 years. Ten years in computer years is like 20 years in dog years. The software should have stopped working 5 years ago. The authoring software i have used is Apple’s iWeb. Apple ceased development and support of iWeb 8 years ago. Small revelation

Sometimes in life there occurs a small revelation. I have been trying to control my anger with tailgaters. I swore out loud when they trailered me on the highway     Click here for this week's music. What to do?       An old Apple slogan danced into my head: “THINK DIFFERENT.” [requisite tech reference for...

Google is not the Internet

Google is not the Internet, it is an index of everything on the Internet. In the beginning of the Internet the creator of the Internet, Tim Berners-Lee, compiled a virtual library (vlib.org) of all websites. This was manually written. I remember this directory being available in a printed paper form.     Click here for this week's music. The format of vlib was like a Table of Contents in a book, grouping websites into categories. Obviously, vlib could not keep up with the exponential growth of the Internet. In 1995 Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) launched AltaVista search engine at altavista.digital.com....

Brain in a box

In order to think out of the box, I keep my brain in a box. So that I don’t forget things I trick myself into remembering. When I leave the house I only have to remember three things. 1.Keys - so I can drive. 2.Fanny pack - for commerce, food and health. 3.My iPhone - for everything else.   Click here for this week's music. Keys allow me to drive my car, get the postal mail and unlock my house. I have apologized to teenagers for wearing a fanny pack. Surprisingly, 90% of them admit that they “sport a fanny...
