Dread Browsing

Episode #867

September 13, 2025

Every day I read the news.
And the news is never new.

There are disasters, distractions, declarations, and declinations.

Someone massacres children, shoppers, or partiers. There is political violence or suicide. A fire, flood, hurricane, earthquake, or tsunami threatens and kills people. The stock market is falling again.

A political scandal rises from long-locked and redacted documents. Secrets are revealed by political rivals. Revenge is exacted. Apologies never seem to come.

A movie is tanked by the critics, even though it sets new summer blockbuster records. Someone drops out of an election. The newest email scam takes thousands of elderly victims. A new piece of software or a new telephone plan is killing the competition. A beloved actor dies.

“I didn’t do it,” declares a politician. “Pay no attention to the video of me.”

The newest legislation takes money from the poor and middle class, making the rich richer. Politicians cheat.

The newest technology promises to fulfill the predictions of science fiction novels. AI lies to protect itself. Ransomware locks millions of computers, enriching itself with bitcoin.

This is the state of the news. It is not limited to certain websites, TV shows, or publications. It is pervasive. In a typical day, I find one or two positive, uplifting articles celebrating the accomplishments or morality of human beings.

And so, I have put positive news sites in my daily read.

Good News Network is one of these news sites.

A typical list of Good News headlines is:

  1. Dutch Cities Build Tiny Stairs so Cats Can Exit Canals.
  2. Man Leaves Legacy List of 3,600 Books He Read.
  3. Japanese “Rental Grandmother” Service Provides Much-Needed Love.
  4. Home Siding Made of Rice Husks Saves Trees.
  5. Service Dog Senses Irregular Heartbeat Saving Veteran Owner’s Life.
  6. Mitochondria Can Be Harnessed for Healing.
  7. UN’s 10 Minute Tsunami Warning Warns Millions in Russian Earthquake.
  8. Fearless Hero Runs in Front of Train to Save Collapsed Man on Tracks.

My morning is uplifted instead of downtrodden now.

Without Dread Browsing, there is less Doom and Gloom and more Good in this world than any of the mainstream news services know.
